Katy Bourne, the county’s Police & Crime Commissioner, has welcomed a unanimous vote of support from the Sussex Police & Crime Panel members who have today (Friday 1 February) backed her decision to increase the police precept by an extra £2 per month (for an average band D property).
Following a week-long awareness raising campaign of victim support services across the county, Safe: Space Sussex (the online directory of these services) has seen a 68% uplift in visitors to the site with, “Domestic Abuse (DA)” being the most searched crime type page. This report comes at an interesting time for victims of DA with the government’s announcement this week of new draft legislation to combat the impact of this type of abuse.

On the 14th January Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne launched a week-long photographic exhibition at the Jubilee Library, Brighton to celebrate locally funded victim support services.
Sussex PCC, Katy Bourne spent Monday afternoon with a handful of trainee contact handlers from the last tranche of recruitment. She spent time hearing about their different interactions with members of the public and gauging their opinion of this varied and often challenging role.
It is a tremendous relief that Gatwick has re-opened after the deployment of specialist assets and assistance from other agencies to deal with the drone threat, but there is still a live police led operation underway and I urge anybody with any information to contact them.
After a briefing on the operation to locate the drones which have been disrupting Gatwick, I wanted to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the police and partners across what is a huge geographical area.
