About the elections

Police & Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are elected every four years. The last election was in May 2016 and the next election will be in May 2020.

To read about the roles and responsibilities of a PCC please visit the Home Office website. The Association of Police & Crime Commissioners (APCC) has also produced a short video which explains how the public can have their say about who their local PCC is.

To read more about the election guidance for PCCs, including qualifications for standing as a candidate, please visit the Electoral Commission website.

This page will be updated as guidance becomes available for the 2020 election. The OSPCC will be providing information about the role of a PCC and holding a briefing event shortly after the deadline for nominations.
